History

Founded in 1947, AMECO is a recognized industry leader supporting capital construction projects, ongoing facility operations and maintenance, and emergency response efforts for 75 years. The timeline below shows our key historical milestones through present day.

  • 1947: Daniel Equipment Division was Founded in Greenville, SC as the equipment and tool division of Daniel Construction Company. It began as a warehouse operation in a garage off of Main Street in Greenville. Soon after WWII, the office began overflowing, and the warehouse space was converted into offices. "The Warehouse" was moved to a new location at the edge of town on Piedmont Road.
  • 1950s: "The Warehouse" was used to store equipment between jobs. It later became American Equipment Company's first location in Greenville, SC. By the mid-1950s, Daniel Construction Company was a leader in construction in the South of the United States. Its slogan was "Builder in and of the South."
  • 1969: Daniel Equipment Division moved to the existing location of AMECO headquarters on the corner of Anderson Road and Washington Avenue in Greenville, SC. The building contained 30,000 square feet of divisional offices, departmentalized central repair shops, and inside storage.
  • 1971: American Equipment Company was established in order to expand the business and support clients outside of Daniel Construction.
  • 1975: Tool Service, a subsidiary of AMECO, was launched. The company was later reorganized back into AMECO.
  • 1977: Acquired by Fluor Corporation as a part of the Daniel Construction acquisition.
  • 1983: Merged with Fluor's Equipment Division, FluorPort.
  • 1987: Expanded to Puerto Rico, the first expansion outside of the continental United States.
  • 1990: Expanded to Canada, the first expansion outside the United States.
  • 1995: Global expansion with operations in Mexico, Argentina, Chile, and the Philippines.
  • 1999: Rebranded as AMECO, conducting business under a new name and new logo.
  • 2000: Organized into three business lines: Site Services, Fleet Outsourcing, and Distribution.
  • 2001: Expanded into Jamaica.
  • 2005: Established three global operating regions: Africa/Middle East, Latin America, and North America/Caribbean.
  • 2012: Acquired ServiTrade in Mozambique.
  • 2013: Broke ground on a new, state of the art, company headquarters building on the same property that has served as AMECO’s home since 1969.
  • 2014: New AMECO headquarters officially opened in October.
  • 2019: Began site-wide support of a major LNG project in Western Canada, the largest energy investment in Canadian history, and opened a new operations center in Terrace, British Columbia.
  • 2020: Jamaica operations divested.
  • 2021: One Equity Partners purchased United States and Canada operations, establishing AMECO as an independent company. Gary Bernardez returned as Chief Executive Officer, and AMECO renewed its mission as a Site Services company.
  • 2022: AMECO will celebrate its 75th year providing Site Services to our clients!
